Joe Root backs England to recover

England batsman Joe Root insists that the team are ready to bounce back from their heavy defeat to Australia in the second Ashes Test when the teams meet at Edgbaston.

England batsman Joe Root has stated that the team will bounce back from their heavy defeat to Australia at Lord's.

The Ashes series is poised at 1-1 following the tourists' 405-run win last time out, which followed England's 169-run success in the opening Test at Cardiff.

Ahead of the third Test at Edgbaston, Root has admitted that the England players are determined to put the Lord's capitulation behind them.

"The whole team understands how much a defeat like Lord's hurts every cricket fan in the country because every guy in the dressing room is a massive England fan too," the Yorkshireman told Sky Sports News.

"Every one of us loves playing for England and we get the opportunity to do what a lot of people watching want to do. We don't take it lightly when we perform as we did last week, it wasn't good enough, and the key thing now is to learn from the mistakes, draw a line under it and move on.

"Every Ashes Test is massively important and of course you want to put in a strong performance every time you go out and represent England but this is a big match now - in the context of this series to go 2-1 up now would be fantastic."

The third Test begins on Wednesday.
