England bowler Jake Ball fitness doubt for Ashes opener

England bowler Jake Ball will play no further part in his side's Ashes warm-up match against Australia XI and is now a fitness doubt to face Australia in a fortnight.

Jake Ball is in a race against time to be fit for England's opening Ashes Test with Australia after being ruled out with a troublesome injury.

The Nottinghamshire paceman is to miss the remainder of his side's tour match against Australia XI after damaging his ankle four overs into his opening bowling spell.

Ball will play no further part in the day-night warm-up match, with a scan in Adelaide on Friday confirming that the injury is serious enough to keep him out of action for at least the next week.

England, who most recently lost Middlesex bowler Steven Finn to injury, face Australia in their opening Test match on November 23.

Moeen Ali is another fitness doubt, as he has yet to feature in the warm-up matches due to a side strain.
