Jason Gillespie tips Jonny Bairstow for Ashes spot

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie believes that Jonny Bairstow should be brought into the England side for the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has said that Jonny Bairstow should be in the England team for the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

It has been reported that the England selectors will make changes following the heavy defeat to Australia in the second Test at Lord's.

Bairstow has been tipped for a return to the Test side after scoring his fifth century of the season for Yorkshire at the weekend, and Gillespie is confident that the 25-year-old would deliver if selected.

"Jonny is in a very special place right now," Gillespie told The Guardian.

"His average in the championship this summer has just tipped past 100 with that innings and, given the opportunity, I know he would take it with both hands.

"It is important that those people who don't watch much county cricket don't pipe up with opinions based on his past experience in Test cricket because we're talking about a different beast right now."

Bairstow was dropped from the England Test side 18 months ago following the 5-0 whitewash to Australia in the last Ashes series.
