England in trouble at tea

Peter Siddle tears into England to leave them on 185-6 at tea on day one of the opening Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

England have found themselves on 185-6 at tea on day one of the opening Ashes Test against Australia at Trent Bridge.

The hosts reached 98-2 at lunch as Alastair Cook (13) and Joe Root (30) were dismissed by James Pattinson and Peter Siddle respectively.

England were another man down moments after the restart as Kevin Pietersen went for 14 when he was caught behind by Michael Clarke off the bowling of Siddle.

Trott had steadily made his way to 48 before he was skittled by Siddle, while the Aussie bowler claimed another victim in the form of Ian Bell (25) as the home side laboured to 178-5.

A disastrous second session continued to get worse soon after when Matt Prior went for one thanks to Siddle, who claimed his fifth wicket for the loss of 49 runs.

England will continue with Jonny Bairstow (32 not out) and Stuart Broad (one not out) at the crease following tea.
