Alastair Cook: 'Ashes places up for grabs'

Alastair Cook says that England's fast bowlers have a chance to impress in the upcoming warm-up games to take the third and final slot in the team for the first Ashes Test on November 21.

England captain Alastair Cook has said that there is an opportunity for a quick bowler to pry his way into the team for the first Ashes Test.

The 28-year-old announced that James Anderson and Stuart Broad are guaranteed their spot in Brisbane on November 21, but has challenged Boyd Rankin, Steven Finn and Chris Tremlett to earn their place during the warm-up matches.

"It's quite clear to see that Jimmy and Broady have done enough over their fantastic careers to be first-choice bowlers," Cook told reporters in Perth.

"If they do well in these warm-up games, the opportunities they get, they're going to put their name there."

Andy Flower's men take on Western Australia in a three-day tour match beginning on October 31.
