England opening batsman Michael Carberry has admitted that he and his teammates struggled to cope with the pace of Australian seamer Mitchell Johnson on day two of the Ashes first Test in Brisbane.
Carberry high-scored with 40 in the England innings as the tourists ended the day 224 runs behind the Australians, and he said that they remain confident of success in the series.
"I didn't come here expecting the Aussies to be shaking my hand," BT Sport quotes Carberry as saying. "The Australian bowlers came hard at us, but it's where you want to be as a cricketer.
"Mitchell Johnson is a world-class performer - definitely in terms of pace, he's up there with some of the quickest I've faced.
"That's tough for anyone. But we knew what he was going to bring. We weren't up to it today, but I'm confident we can prove ourselves."
England currently hold The Ashes following their series win last summer.
