Stuart Broad: 'Ashes fourth Test opener was perfect day'

England bowler Stuart Broad describes his side's Ashes fourth Test, first-day thrashing of Australia at Trent Bridge as the best day of his career.

England's Stuart Broad has described his side's Ashes thrashing of Australia at Trent Bridge as the best day of his career.

The Nottinghamshire bowler took a career-best 8-15 as the hosts bowled the tourists out for 60.

England, currently 2-1 leaders in the series, subsequently reached 274-4, with Joe Root scoring 124 by the close of a brutal opening day of the fourth Test.

Broad told BBC Sport: "It was one of those days you dream of. It's been the perfect day but it starts again tomorrow. A 214-run lead after day one is probably as powerful a performance as I've ever seen or been involved in.

"I keep looking up at the scoreboard and it doesn't look real to me. It hasn't sunk in, but it's a bit of a freak day, the kind you work hard for, train for. You want those days when it all works for you and today was one of those days."

England are now on the verge of reclaiming the Ashes urn after losing it to Australia just under two years ago.
