Australia retain the Ashes with by winning the third Test match against England by an innings and 14 runs, taking the final six wickets within 80 minutes on day three.

Australia have wrapped up victory in the third Test against a shambolic England by an innings and 14 runs, ensuring that they win the series and retain the Ashes with two matches to spare.

England went into day three first needing to score a further 51 runs to make Australia bat again, but the tourists collapsed from 46-4 to 68 all out, a capitulation which defined their disastrous spell Down Under.

Resuming on 31-4, England required a big innings from Joe Root and Ben Stokes, and the pair batted with intent during the opening overs of the day.

However, Stokes was soon bowled by Mitchell Starc for 11, and although Jonny Bairstow was unfortunate to get out lbw for five, the writing was already on the wall.

Scott Borland collected a fourth wicket for five runs as Root (28) edged through to first slip, exposing the tail with 21 runs still required to avoid an innings defeat.

Mark Wood and Ollie Robinson followed for a pair of ducks - lasting just five balls between them - and it took a two off the pads of James Anderson to prevent England from registering a record-breaking 55th duck of the calendar year.

Borland finished with sensational figures of 6-7 off just four overs, and it was left to Cameron Green to wrap up proceedings by bowling Anderson, condemning England to yet another embarrassing defeat.
