Australia continue to progress at tea

Steve Smith scores his first Test hundred as Australia move onto 397-6 at tea on day two of the final Ashes Test at The Oval.

Australia have moved onto 397-6 at tea on day two of the fifth Ashes Test against England at The Oval.

Steve Smith scored his maiden Test century to help the tourists add to their overnight total of 307-4.

Persistent rain in South London meant that no play was possible during the morning session.

Once play began it was James Anderson who made the breakthrough for England, bowling Peter Siddle for 24 to reduce Australia to 320-5.

Smith and Brad Haddin (30) kept the score ticking over until the latter dragged a Jonathan Trott delivery onto his stumps.

Australia will resume with Smith and James Faulkner at the crease. You can follow Sports Mole's live text coverage of the evening session here.
