Mitchell Johnson stars as Australia beat South Africa

Australia ease to victory over South Africa in the first Test in Centurion by 281 runs, courtesy of an 11-wicket haul from Mitchell Johnson.

Australia have eased to victory over South Africa in the first Test in Centurion by 281 runs.

The tourists declared on 290-4 early on in the morning session, giving their South African counterparts a 418-run target after lunch before going on to draw first blood in the series in comfortable fashion.

Mitchell Johnson, who had proved the Proteas' chief tormentor in the morning and lunch sessions, resumed his dominance early in the third period of the day and took his 10th wicket of the match, sending JP Duminy (10) back to the pavilion before disposing of Ryan McClaren (6).

Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel were the final pair at the crease, the former being run out to give the tourists a 1-0 lead in the series.
