Former Australia coach Tim Nielsen believes that the current national team need more leaders than just Michael Clarke.

Former Australia coach Tim Nielsen believes that the current national side don't have enough leaders.

Michael Clarke's team delved into controversy last week when David Warner reportedly punched England's Joe Root in a bar in Birmingham and as a result was banned from all action until the first Ashes Test.

Nielsen feels that if the Baggy Greens had more leaders within the team, then these incidents would not occur.

He told BBC Sport: "Probably the biggest difference between a lot of great sides is that strength of leadership of your players.

"It doesn't necessarily mean they have to have captain next to their name. They expect behaviour and they understand what is expected of them, just through experience.

"That's maybe one of the tough things for this side at the moment. They don't have a lot of natural leadership around the group."

Australia are in action later today in the ICC Champions Trophy when they face Sri Lanka with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
