Michael Clarke will captain Australia in the final one-day international against England on Sunday.
With the series already secured, Clarke was rested for the Friday's match in Perth, as were David Warner, Shane Watson and Brad Haddin.
England capitalised on a weakened opposition as they ended a run of nine consecutive defeats with a 57-run victory at The WACA.
George Bailey, who skippered Australia in Perth, admits that he had half expected to remain in charge for the Adelaide clash.
"I'm surprised that Pup is actually coming back after just missing one. I thought he might miss two," Bailey told reporters.
"Don't get me wrong, you want to win every game you play. But given how crammed the schedule is, I think if you do get an opportunity to rest a few of the guys, you take the option."
Australia can return to the top of the ODI rankings by beating England at the Adelaide Oval.
