Australia selector John Inverarity has insisted that Mitchell Johnson deserves his place in the Ashes squad due to his impressive recent form in the one-day internationals.
The Baggy Greens announced their team for the first Test on Tuesday morning, with the 32-year-old, who was overlooked for the summer Ashes series in England, making the cut due to an injury to Mitchell Starc.
"Mitchell Johnson has been bowling impressively in recent times," said Inverarity in a press conference. "He has good rhythm and is generating good pace.
"Ten players who represented Australia in its most recent Test match have been retained in this squad. Mitchell Starc is unavailable due to injury and he has been replaced by Mitchell Johnson."
The first Test gets underway in Brisbane next week.
