Great Britain's Jonathan Boyton misses out in men's kayak single 1,000m

Max Hoff takes gold for Germany in the men's kayak single (K1) 1,000m in Baku, although Great Britain's Jonathan Boyton finishes well down the pecking order.

Germany's Max Hoff has taken gold in the men's kayak single (K1) 1,000m at the European Games by narrowly edging out Fernando Pimenta.

There was to be no joy for Team GB's Jonathan Boyton, though, who finished ninth in the canoeing event final having progressed through the semi-finals yesterday afternoon.

Hoff's time of 3:28.205 was enough to earn his country's first gold of Baku 2015, while Portugal's Pimenta was narrowly behind in a time of 3:28.421 in Mingachevir.

Bronze was scooped by Rene Holten Poulsen, with his success finally getting Denmark off the mark at the inaugural Games.
