Nicola Adams: "I'm here to win it"

Team GB boxer Nicola Adams is aiming to become the first woman to win a boxing gold medal at the European Games in Baku.

Olympic champion Nicola Adams has insisted that she is at the European Games in Baku to "win it", having carried the flag for Team GB at the opening ceremony.

The flyweight was the first woman to win an Olympic boxing gold medal when she won her event in London 2012, and added to her collection with victory at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last year.

The 32-year-old told reporters: "I'm here to win it. I don't want to focus on any opponent until I know who I will meet. But I will be the first woman to win the European Games title. It can only be one first time, and I'm after it.

"My profile is higher [since winning Olympic gold]. People come up to me in the street and ask for autographs or if they can take a picture with me. I could live on boxing even before the Olympics, but now I'm also able to provide for my family. But personally I'm still the same. That will never change.

"To be the first woman to win two Olympic titles, when that's done, I'll think about the future, and maybe start to negotiate a professional contract. Or I may go into acting."

The women's flyweight competition gets underway on Friday.
