Charlie Flynn hails 'amazing atmosphere'

Scotland boxer Charlie Flynn praises the home crowd following his opening win at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Scotland boxer Charlie Flynn has thanked the crowd for their support during his victory at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Flynn booked his spot in the quarter-finals of the Lightweight division with victory over Nick Cooney in his first bout of the Games this summer.

"The atmosphere was absolutely amazing. When you hear them roaring, you feel the passion in your heart and I knew that I could not let these people down," he told Sports Mole.

"I don't really feel the pressure (from the crowd). I use it more as confidence. It feels as if the crowd are in the ring with you. I am relaxed and it was just good to just get in the ring."

Flynn also revealed that he likes boxing "a lot better" without headguards, saying: "It is a lot better. I really do prefer it. Headguards can block your vision. I prefer it."

Flynn's next fight is on Tuesday.
