Aqeel Ahmed "very pleased" with first fight

Scotland boxer Aqeel Ahmed says that he was "very pleased" to come through his first fight of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Scotland boxer Aqeel Ahmed has revealed that he was "very pleased" to come through his first fight of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Ahmed overcame Alumasa Matayo Keya in the last-16 stage to book his spot in the quarter-finals in front of a passionate crowd in Glasgow.

"I am very pleased to get it out of the way. I was a bit nervous and a bit worried, but once I was in there I was feeling it. That is the ring-rust out of the way and I am ready for the next one," he told Sports Mole.

Ahmed also vowed to handle the pressure on his shoulders this summer.

"It depends how you handle it. Some people crumble to that pressure. I had a lot pressure having family over that have never seen me box before and I am glad to get the win in front of them. You have to soak it all in," he added.

Ahmed's next fight is on Wednesday.
