WBA sanctions Anthony Joshua, Wladimir Klitschko fight for 2017

The WBA announces that Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko will compete for its vacant 'super' title next year, providing Joshua defeats Eric Molina on December 10.

The WBA has announced that it will sanction a potential heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko for 2017.

The pair had initially hoped to meet on December 10 but a delay in the governing body making a decision on the fight and a minor injury to Klitschko meant that plans were scrapped until next year.

However, just hours after it was confirmed that Joshua would defend his IBF crown against Eric Molina next month, the WBA revealed that the pair would compete for their vacant 'super' belt providing that Joshua is victorious at the Manchester Arena.

The organisation has also ruled that Lucas Browne and Shannon Briggs will meet for their 'regular' title at some point during the turn of the year.

The winner of that bout must then face Fres Oquendo within 120 days.
