Liam Smith: 'I won't be overawed against Saul Alvarez'

British super-welterweight Liam Smith says that he will not be "overawed" when he defends his WBO title against Saul Alvarez in September.

British super-welterweight Liam Smith has suggested that he has full faith in his ability and fighting style ahead of his clash with Saul Alvarez.

Smith will put his unbeaten record and WBO title on the line against Alvarez at the AT & T Stadium in Texas on September 17, and the Liverpudlian has backed himself to stop his opponent and inflict just his second career defeat.

The 27-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I'm not going there to make the numbers up and I'm not going to give my title away. I'm going there to make a name for myself, not really in America but in the world of boxing.

"I think there's only Floyd Mayweather has gone in there and not feared him. I'm the same. If you know me as a person, I'm not going there in fear and awe; I'm going there to beat him. I'm not changing my mentality.

"I'm going there to fight like I always fight and I'm going there to stop Canelo. I'll cherish every bit of it."

Smith will be making the third defence of a belt which he won last October.
