British middleweight Martin Murray has admitted that he is keen to start 2014 on a high after being handed an opportunity to fight for the WBA title in February.
Murray will face Australia's Jarrod Fletcher in Monte Carlo after the WBA elevated current holder Gennady Golovkin to the status of "super champion", and the Mancunian has acknowledged that he will need to improve on his display against Sergey Khomitsky in London last weekend.
The 31-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I wasn't really up for the fight last week, but the most important thing to do was to get the win.
"I'm just looking forward to having a good year next year, winning a world title and turning all those frustrations into a positive."
The bout will be Murray's third attempt to try to win a world title, after he previously earned a draw with Felix Sturm before a points defeat to Sergio Martinez.
