Frank Maloney says that a fight between David Haye and Dereck Chisora, fighting under another country's licence in Britain, could "kill" British boxing.

Frank Maloney has added his voice to the chorus of dissenters who are unhappy at the prospect of a bout between David Haye and Dereck Chisora.

Maloney has joined fellow boxing promoter Barry Hearn in condemning Frank Warren's plans to stage the controversial clash in London this summer.

Despite neither fighter holding a British boxing licence, it is believed that Warren may press ahead with plans for the fight, which would see the pair box under licences from other countries.

Maloney believes that this course of action would seriously undermine the British Boxing Board of Control and has called for government protection.

"It could be the final nail in British boxing's coffin," Maloney told the Daily Mail. "I have heard all the talk and I have spoken to the British Boxing Board of Control and I just hope it does not happen.

"The consequences could be huge. It's ridiculous. If we undermine the British Board, which is by no means perfect, then the sport will be in a mess.

"The British Board needs to be protected, possibly by the government in this instance, because the sport needs to be kept under control and there will be no way to do that with multiple organisations working over here."

Chisora is currently awaiting the result of an appeal against his ban.
