WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko tells David Haye that he must wait for the chance to face him.

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has told David Haye that he will not offer him a title shot anytime soon.

The Briton is expected to announce his first fight since July at a press conference this week, but the Ukrainian insists that he will have to wait for the chance to face him in the ring.

"If David wants to fight, he has to wait because I have to defend my title against an official contender," he told BBC Sport. "After that maybe.

"If David Haye has [a] high [enough] position on the world rankings, we can fight each other but it will not be soon. The fight against David Haye is not everything for me."

Klitschko went on to say that he gave Haye the opportunity to face him in Moscow last year, only for the 32-year-old to reject the proposal.

"Last September I gave a proposal to David Haye to fight me in Moscow. David Haye had a contract and didn't want to do that and instead of fighting me he fought [Dereck] Chisora," he said.

"How long [should] I have to wait for David Haye? I gave him a proposal and he didn't take it."

Haye is a former heavyweight and cruiserweight king, with 26 wins and two defeats on his professional record.
