Amir Khan still hopeful of Floyd Mayweather fight

Amir Khan still wants to fight Floyd Mayweather next year despite losing his titles.

Amir Khan is still hopeful of securing a fight with Floyd Mayweather next year despite losing his light-welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson.

Khan lost his WBA and IBF world titles to Peterson after losing a split decision in Washington, when the Brit was penalised on two occasions for repeated pushing.

The Bolton-born fighter believes the lessons he learned in the defeat will make him a better fighter as he looks towards regaining his titles.

"People are still talking about that fight, this has only put me back 3-6 months, because hopefully I'll get the rematch with Peterson and beat him," Khan said.

"Maybe it's happened for a reason. It's given me an extra fight, given me more experience and made me a lot wiser and I'll be a lot more mature when I fight Mayweather."

Khan is expected to face Peterson in a title rematch next year.
