Amir Khan hopeful of Miguel Cotto fight

British welterweight Amir Khan reveals that he is hopeful of securing a high-profile fight with Miguel Cotto.

Amir Khan has revealed that he would be willing to fight at a catch-weight if it meant securing a showdown with Miguel Cotto.

Welterweight Khan is looking for an opponent for his return to the ring at the end of May, and even though two weight divisions separate him and WBC middleweight champion Cotto, the Bolton fighter has insisted that he would be happy to take the fight.

The 28-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I think Miguel Cotto's a good fighter for me. Obviously styles make fights, he's a very big name in boxing, everyone knows who he is.

"I think with my speed, movement and the way I have been fighting under Virgil Hunter, I think it will be a great fight for me. I know he is a lot heavier than me but doing that fight at catch-weight will be amazing.

"But at the moment, we have just left everything with the managers and hopefully they can get everything sorted out and within the next week or so, we can get something announced for hopefully towards the end of May."

A win in his next fight could potentially strengthen Khan's chances of securing a match with either Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao in September.
