Amir Khan furious at Angel Garcia

Amir Khan responds angrily to comments made by Danny Garcia's father that he is "overrated".

Amir Khan was angered by comments made by his opponent Danny Garcia's father at a Los Angeles press conference yesterday.

Khan and Garcia junior are due to fight for the WBC light-welterweight title on July 14, but the Bolton-born boxer commented that "it's a shame that his father will not be taking the punches" following comments he made during the event, which was shown live on ESPN.

While Khan was speaking, Angel Garcia, who is also Danny's trainer, interrupted and said: "When Danny starts hitting you what are you going to do? 1-2 and roll out all night? Come on, man, you're overrated."

The British challenger responded to the outburst by asking: "When I beat your son, will I still be overrated?

"I promise you all I'm going to beat ... Danny Garcia. I'm too smart, big and strong for you guys."

Afterwards, Khan told reporters, "I don't like the way his dad disrespected the sport. There's one thing to be confident, another to be scared. He's scared.

"My last five opponents could beat him. And when he says I haven't fought anybody, who has he fought? Old guys. I would've knocked [Erik] Morales out."

Khan has won 26 of his 28 fights - 18 by knockout - while Garcia is undefeated in 23 bouts and has won 14 by knockout.
