Boxing promoter Mick Hennessy has called for Carl Frampton to step up and fight Kid Galahad following last night's victory over James Dickens.
The 23-year-old, who fights out of Brendan Ingle's gym in Sheffield, captured the vacant British super bantamweight strap in a thrilling bout at the Magna Centre, Rotherham.
Frampton defends his European title against Jeremy Parodi on October 19, but Hennessy hopes that the Northern Irishman will agree to a fight with his man should he overcome the Frenchman in Belfast.
"We knew that Barry needed a world class performance to beat Jazza Dickens - he's a quality fighter," Hennessy told Channel 5.
"Carl Frampton's got a voluntary of his European title coming up shortly, and then Barry's going to be his manadatory.
"Let's see if he steps up and fights Kid Galahad. I don't think he will, but that's the fight we want."
Frampton too to Twitter to respond to Hennessy's comments, posting: "Dear big fat Mick, you might get your lad hurt with statements like that. #boom #budget #cringe #shutup"
'The Jackal' scored a ninth-round stoppage over Kiko Martinez in his previous bout back in February.
