Lee Haskins elevated to IBF bantamweight champion

British bantamweight Lee Haskins is the new IBF champion after Randy Caballero was stripped of the belt after failing to make weight in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Lee Haskins has been elevated to the status of IBF bantamweight champion after opponent Randy Caballero failed to make weight ahead of their scheduled showdown in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

In June, Haskins beat Ryosuke Iwasa to become the interim champion and earn a shot at title holder Caballero, who had been out of the ring for over a year since winning the belt against Stuart Hall.

However, 24 hours before the bout, and after Bristol-based Haskins had successfully weighed in, Caballero hit 123.5lbs on the scales - 5.5lbs over the limit of 118lbs.

The miscalculation immediately saw Caballero lose his world title, and with it, Haskins become recognised as the new champion without lacing up his gloves.

Haskins's camp have revealed that he will look to make his first defence during the spring.
