James DeGale: 'George Groves is desperate for rematch'

British super-middleweight James DeGale says that long-term rival George Groves is "desperate" to agree to a second showdown between the pair.

British super-middleweight James DeGale has insisted that there will always be interest in a second clash with George Groves.

In 2011, Groves edged out DeGale in a British title bout but DeGale has gone on to win world honours while Groves has failed on three occasions.

With DeGale likely to face WBC champion Badou Jack in his next fight another meeting seems unlikely for 2017, but the IBF title holder has suggested that his long-term rival is "desperate" for a rematch with his fellow Londoner.

The 30-year-old told Sky Sports News: "There will always be demand for me and Groves because it's a genuine, true grudge match. He's desperate now. They're desperate.

"Where are they going to go? Where are Groves' big fights? Where is he going to earn a lot of money? He's looking at me."

Groves recently put himself back in contention to compete for a world title with a points win over Martin Murray.
