De La Hoya launches attack on Sky

Amir Khan's promoter Oscar De La Hoya criticises Sky for not broadcasting his most recent fight.

Amir Khan's promoter Oscar De La Hoya has criticised Sky for not broadcasting the boxer's WBA light-welterweight title defence at the weekend.

Khan's fight with Paul McCloskey was instead broadcast on the Primetime TV sports channel after being dumped by Sky Box Office.

After the match, which Khan won in the sixth round, De La Hoya said: "Amir is still the WBA champion of the world. When you have 17,000 people in this arena and it is televised on Primetime, and with the bright future of Amir Khan and the fights he's going to have in the future, I believe Sky made a big mistake."

He added that his company, Golden Boy Promotions, would be talking with Primetime TV about a longer term deal with the network. "We know [Primetime] want to be a player in the boxing world. Well, you have the biggest promoter in the world today right now telling you we're going to work together and that's the bottom line."
