Saul Alvarez retains WBC light-middleweight title

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez beats 'Sugar' Shane Mosley in Las Vegas to retain his WBC light-middleweight title.

Saul Alvarez has retained his WBC light-middleweight title with a unanimous decision over 'Sugar' Shane Mosley.

The 21-year-old started slowly in the first round as Mosley looked to take the upper hand. Mosley was stunned by some powerful shots from the youngster in the second.

Alvarez, who was making the fourth defence of his belt, had settled into a rhythm by the third round and he started to unload on the 40-year-old veteran.

However, a clash of heads opened up a gash over Alvarez's left eye, which seemed to trouble him as Mosley tried to exploit his advantage.

The Mexican once again had Mosley wobbling in the seventh round and he barely managed to hang on for the bell.

Mosley managed to refocus in the eighth and once again walked forward, trying to dictate the pace but ended up walking onto many of Alvarez's shots.

'Canelo' was far more accurate than his ageing opponent and his quality work saw him take a convincing decision on all three of the judges scorecards.
