Michael O'Reilly claims middleweight gold for Ireland

Michael O'Reilly claims Ireland's second gold medal of the day with victory over Azerbaijan's Xaybula Musalov in the men's welterweight final at the European Games.

Ireland's Michael O'Reilly has captured gold in the men's middleweight final at the European Games.

The 22-year-old had to contend with opponent Xaybula Musalov having the home support behind him, but he just did enough to prevail from a closely-fought final.

After the opening two rounds were unanimously shared, O'Reilly impressed all three judges in the final session to win 29-28 on the scorecards.

O'Reilly's win came less than two hours after Katie Taylor had secured Ireland's first gold medal of the Games in Baku.

The bronze medal winners were Russia's Maxim Koptyakov and Hungary's Zoltan Harcsa.
