Devendro Singh Laishram upsets Purevdorj Serdamba

India's Devendro Singh Laishram shocks Mongolia's Purevdorj Serdamba to advance to the last eight of the flyweight tournament.

India's Devendro Singh Laishram has caused a shock in the light flyweight division by beating Mongolia's Purevdorj Serdamba.

Laishram began the bout at a furious pace, marauding forward but swinging wildly with not much accuracy.

The Mongolian was producing the cleaner work, with two decent lefts piercing the Indian's guard and finding their target.

The second round was fought at a slower pace but Laishram started to find his range. A great left hook sent Purevdorj down but the referee did not issue a count.

The Indian led by three points heading into the final round and went further ahead by forcing a standing count with another big left, this time finding its way over the top of Purevdorj's guard.

The Mongolian went looking for the knockout punch as time ebbed away but he could do nothing to stop Laishram prevailing 16-11.
