Roniel Iglesias dispatches Everton Lopes

Cuban light welterweight Roniel Iglesias progresses to the last eight of the Olympics by knocking out Brazil's number one seed Everton Lopes.

Cuba's Roniel Iglesias has ousted Brazilian light welterweight Everton Lopes to secure his spot in the quarter-finals.

Both men engaged each other from the first bell, taking it in turns to launch their attacks. However, neither man was landing anything of significance.

The action became more frenetic in the second round and it was Iglesias who was in the ascendancy, scoring with a few good shots to open up a 13-9 lead.

Lopes did send his opponent down with what looked like an accurate left hand, but the referee did not make the count.

The Cuban came under some pressure in the final round but matched the Brazilian's work rate to take an 18-15 victory.
