Chicago Bulls and Great Britain small forward Luol Deng says that he is likely to miss this summer's European basketball championships to enjoy a rest.

Luol Deng has said that he is likely to miss the European basketball championships, EuroBasket, this summer.

The Chicago Bulls and Great Britain small forward wants to enjoy a summer of rest.

"I haven't made the decision 100% [but] most likely I'm not [playing]," he told BBC Sport.

"I would like to have a summer - especially the summer coming up. Last summer I wanted to do the Olympics and I showed how much I wanted to do it."

Deng personally wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron when the sport's funding was cut and more money has since been awarded.

However, with any funding beyond next year dependant on the progress made by the men's and women's teams at EuroBasket, his absence could prove costly.

"This is not about the team getting the money or not, this is my decision," he added.

"We have a lot of good players on the team to still be successful and we're in a good position. I fully trust in the guys."

Deng is the player in the NBA who averages the highest minutes a game with 39.6.
