Allen Iverson officially announces basketball retirement

Eleven-time All-Star Allen Iverson officially announces his retirement from basketball.

Allen Iverson has officially announced his retirement from basketball.

The 38-year-old has not featured in the NBA since 2010 but today confirmed that he would no longer play professionally after some time with Turkish side Besiktas.

"I gave everything I had to basketball. The passion is still there but the desire to play is not. It was a great ride," Iverson told reporters.

Future Hall of Famer Iverson, who was an 11-time All-Star, had his best years with in a 10-year stretch with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he won the league's MVP in 2001.

Iverson also had spells with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies.
