Minnesota Timberwolves exercise options on Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams

The Minnesota Timberwolves elect to exercise contract options on both Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams

The Minnesota Timberwolves have confirmed that they have chosen to pick up fourth-year contract options on both Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams.

Point guard Rubio was a key player for the Wolves last season and he impressed many on his way to averaging 10.7 points per game, despite the team failing in their bid to book a spot in the playoffs.

Williams played 78 games for the Timberwolves during the last campaign but reports prior to the start of pre-season suggested that the franchise would consider not exercising their contract option.

However, the 22-year-old is now set to spend at least the next two seasons with the team that selected him with the second pick in the 2011 draft.
