NBA roundup: Marc wins battle of Gasols against Pau

Sports Mole runs the rule over Monday night's eight-game schedule in the NBA, where the Gasol brothers, Marc and Pau, did battle.

The Gasol brothers, Marc and Pau, met for the first time since their historic starts in the All-Star game last month as the Memphis Grizzlies travelled to the Chicago Bulls in one of eight NBA matches on Monday night.

This time it was Memphis's Marc who got the better of his big brother by top-scoring with 23 points as the Grizzlies inflicted a third defeat in a row on the Bulls.

The Atlanta Hawks became the first team this season to reach the 50-win mark as they scored a season-high 130 in a comfortable 25-point victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Kyle Korver ended his recent poor shooting spell by making six of his eight attempts from distance as the Hawks also set a new franchise record for three-pointers made (20).

While the Hawks were the first team to 50, the Golden State Warriors soon caught them by overcoming the Phoenix Suns a few hours later.

The two teams were level at the break but then Stephen Curry took over, scoring 25 points in the second period, including six of eight from three-point territory, as Golden State won their fourth in a row.

The Los Angeles Clippers returned to winning ways after losing two in a row with an 89-76 win at home against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves.

Chris Paul played with an injured knee and registered just two points for the hosts, but he still managed to hand out 15 assists as JJ Redick (26) took on the scoring load.

The standout individual performance of the night was by Anthony Davis, who tied a career-high with 43 points and also added 10 rebounds and six assists to help the New Orleans Pelicans past the Milwaukee Bucks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 29 points, three steals and three blocks, but it wasn't enough to stop Davis and the playoff-chasing Pelicans.

Brad Stevens's Boston Celtics gave their playoff hopes a big boost by beating the Miami Heat on the road.

Despite 34 points from Dwyane Wade, the Heat fell to a 10-point defeat as Isaiah Thomas again stood out for Boston off the bench with 25 points.

The Charlotte Hornets' five-game winning streak came to an abrupt end as they scored just 69 points in a poor display at home to the Washington Wizards.

Marcin Gortat stood out for the visitors with 20 points and seven rebounds as they won their first away game in 10 tries.

The New York Knicks became the first team this season with 50 defeats as they fell to a 28-point loss at the improving Denver Nuggets.

Since Melvin Hunt stepped in as Nuggets coach following the departure of Brian Shaw, Denver have won three out of five and scored over 100 points in every game after losing 18 of their previous 20.

Results in full: Washington Wizards 95-69 Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings 105-130 Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics 100-90 Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies 101-91 Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans 114-103 Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks 78-106 Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors 98-80 Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves 76-89 Los Angeles Clippers
