Mike Dunleavy interested in Los Angeles Lakers return

Former Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Dunleavy Sr admits that he would be interested in another spell with the franchise.

Mike Dunleavy Sr has revealed that he would be interested in another stint as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 16-time champions are without a coach following Mike D'Antoni's resignation after less than two years in charge earlier this week.

Dunleavy, who coached the side in the early 1990s, said on his SiriusXM radio show: "It's one of the premier jobs, if not the premier job in the league. Obviously, the history and the amount of championships they've won, and the fact is you're in LA. They've shown a great ability to reload over the years pretty quickly, and obviously they've got Kobe Bryant still on their team.

"Clearly, if I had an opportunity to interview with them, I would definitely be interested. I had a great run there when I coached in the 90s. I interviewed the last time the job was open. They're just a great organisation."

Former New York Knicks coach Jeff van Gundy and the Chicago Bulls' Tom Thibodeau have both been linked to the vacancy.
