Stan van Gundy: 'Getting team culture right is important for Detroit Pistons'

Detroit Pistons coach Stan van Gundy tells of his focus on making sure his team is operating with the right sort of culture as they prepare for the next NBA season.

Detroit Pistons coach Stan van Gundy has insisted that the culture of his team is more important than coaching personalities, as his side begin preparations for the next NBA season.

Van Gundy took over coaching responsibilities in May and has since acquired free agents Jodie Meeks, DJ Augustin and Caron Butler, with the coach now stating that the focus will be on making sure his team operates well together.

"I think you want to get your culture right, above anything else, and I think it's naive to think that you're going to do that through the power of your personality, or your, you know, incredible leadership skills," said Gundy, according to the NBA's official website.

"To me, the way you do it is by the people you put on your team and in your locker room. That's how the culture gets changed."

Van Gundy recently met with Detroit's Josh Smith to discuss the player's future with the team.
