Gersson Rosas has resigned from his role as Dallas Mavericks' general manager just three months after taking up the post.

The 35-year-old was hired at the start of August, filling a position that had been vacant at the team for eight years.

In a statement, Rosas said: "The decision was made solely by me, as I firmly believe this change is in my best interest.

"[Owner] Mark Cuban asked me to reconsider my decision, but graciously accepted my decision and we part as friends."

The Mavericks face the Atlanta Hawks in their first game of the new NBA season later today.
