Derrick Rose needs surgery on injured knee

Chicago Bull point guard Derrick Rose will undergo knee surgery after a scan revealed a meniscus tear in his right knee.

The Chicago Bulls have confirmed that Derrick Rose will need knee surgery after an MRI scan revealed that he has a torn meniscus.

The point guard sustained the injury during the team's defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this week.

The former league MVP missed all of last season while recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear sustained during the 2011-12 playoffs.

Rose has averaged 15.9 points per game this season.
