Buster Posey signs record-breaking contract with San Francisco Giants

Buster Posey signs a nine-year contract extension worth $167m with the San Francisco Giants, breaking the record for the longest ever Major League deal for a catcher.

Catcher Buster Posey has signed a Major League record nine-year contract extension with the San Francisco Giants.

The deal, which is worth $167m (£110m), also includes an option for 2022.

It is the longest contract in history for a catcher and the biggest for any Giants player, bettering the six-year $127.5m (£84m) deal signed by pitcher Matt Cain last year.

Posey's new deal also includes a no-trade stipulation, which covers him for five years.
