Ireland's Scott Evans looking to take the initiative at European Games

Ireland's Scott Evans admits that he is determined to succeed at the European Games in the men's badminton to help continue to build the sport across his country.

Ireland's Scott Evans has said that he is determined to seize his chance to medal in the men's badminton at the European Games.

The 27-year-old secured his second victory of the Games in Group A of the competition as he came from a set down to defeat Belgium's Yuhan Tan at Baku Sports Hall.

He told reporters: "I was quite nervous at the start. This event is really important, not just personally but for badminton in Ireland, so it's a bit of extra pressure.

"Badminton is not really a big sport in Ireland and this event is great exposure and a chance for us to build."

Evans is next in action against Hungary's Gergely Krausz.
