A report reveals the obstacles facing Rio de Janeiro ahead of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.

Plans for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro have reportedly been put on hold due to unfinished building work.

In a report by Sky Sports News, it has been revealed that the Olympic Park in Rio is still some way from being finished with just 18 months to go until the opening of the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Professor Chris Gaffney from Fluminense University told reporters: "It's already last minute. It's four years to go the Games and we don't have a project for the Olympic Park. It's 18 months until the World Cup and we don't have an airport."

It is understood that building of the main airport has been put on hold as those involved attempt to complete other pressing projects.
