British Athletics withdraw Katarina Johnson-Thompson long jump appeal

British Athletics withdraw their appeal to overturn Katarina Johnson-Thompson's red flag from her final attempt in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships.

British Athletics have withdrawn their appeal to overturn Katarina Johnson-Thompson's red flag in her final attempt in the long jump in the heptathlon at the World Athletics Championships.

The 22-year-old failed to record a legitimate jump in her first two attempts in the event, but looked to have posted a huge jump in her third effort.

However, Johnson-Thompson left a slight indentation in the plasticine and the judges deemed that the jump was illegal, leaving the 22-year-old with no points in the event, all but ending her hopes of contending for a medal.

British Athletics launched an appeal against the decision, but the IAAF revealed that the organisation rescinded their protest after looking at the evidence.

Jessica Ennis-Hill currently leads the Heptathlon, with just the 800m remaining in the competition.
