Jessica Ennis-Hill hints at retirement

Jessica Ennis-Hill signals that she may retire from the heptathlon following the Rio Olympics.

Jessica Ennis-Hill has hinted that she may decide to retire after the Rio Olympics.

The 30-year-old was forced to relinquish her heptathlon gold on Saturday evening after a hard-fought, two-day battle with Belgium's Nafissatou Thiam as Team GB were unable to replicate the gold rush of 'Super Saturday' in London four years ago.

Speaking to BBC Sport after competing in the final event, the 800m, a teary Ennis-Hill admitted: "I'm really emotional. I've got to go away now and make a big decision as to what I want to do. I don't want to cry on TV but yeah, these years have been amazing."

Asked if that meant that Rio could be her final Olympics, she answered: "Possibly, yeah. I just need to go away and have time with my family, and make a decision.

"It's so hard to find the words to describe this. I've had an amazing few years, I've achieved so much in this sport and I'm really proud."

Earlier in the evening Greg Rutherford was also forced to surrender his title in a thrilling long jump final, while Mo Farah claimed another gold after being pushed all the way in the 10,000m race.
