Great Britain's Jessica Ennis starts her heptathlon campaign by winning her 100m hurdles heat and setting a British record of 12.54s.

Great Britain's Jessica Ennis stormed through her heat of the 100m hurdles in record-breaking fashion with a time of 12.54s in the women's heptathlon.

The 26-year-old got off to the perfect start to her Olympics campaign after shooting out of the blocks to take the highest points total of 1195.

Jessica Zelinka for Canada sits second in the overall standings after the first event with a total of 1178 points, while Hyleas Fountain grabs the third place with 1170 so far for the United States.

Meanwhile, British duo Louise Hazel and Katarina Johnson-Thompson sit equal in 15th place with 1053 points.
