Goldie Sayers has spoken of her frustration at the injuries she has been carrying heading into the London Olympics.
The 30-year-old failed to qualify for the final of the women's javelin earlier this morning, with her performance greatly hampered by injuries to her elbow and hand.
In a emotional interview with BBC Sport, Sayers insisted that she will be competing at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"I'm sure people are probably criticising me for competing and being injured. I caught a nerve in warm-up and couldn't feel my hand," she said. "I couldn't throw the javelin but physically I am in the best shape I have ever been in.
"That is literally all I had today. The irony is that in 15 years of throwing a javelin I haven't hurt my elbow, until now.
"I felt fantastic today but my elbow let me down. It was just not meant to be. I'm going to carry onto Rio and put this right."
Sayers is currently the British record holder in her discipline.
