Phillips Idowu denies claims that he cut off contact with his coach in the weeks leading up to the Olympics.

Team GB's Phillips Idowu has denied claims that he lost contact with his coach in the weeks leading up to the Olympics.

UK Athletics coach Charles van Commenee accused the triple jumper of cutting off contact with Aston Moore as he opted to undergo his own treatment for a trapped nerve instead of joining up with his team's training camp in Portugal.

Idowu went on to produce what he described as one of the worst performances of his career as he failed to progress past the first round. However, he insists that he kept in contact with his coach throughout.

"I feel the situation could have gone differently if there'd been less talking and I'd just been left to get on with my job," said Idowu.

"A statement was made saying there had been no contact with Aston but I've still got the messages on my phone to prove that's not true."

The final for the men's triple jump takes place this evening.
