Phillips Idowu is "disappointed and surprised" by the BOA's request to provide them with medical records following his withdrawal from a Team GB training camp with a hip injury.

The agent of Phillips Idowu has insisted that his client has no problem with providing the BOA with his medical records, but has revealed the triple jumper's 'disappointment' upon learning of the request.

Idowu recently pulled out of a Team GB training camp in Portugal with a hip problem, prompting the BOA to ask for details about his injury in order to examine his fitness ahead of the London Games, which begin on Friday.

A silver medallist in Beijing four years ago, Idowu is one of Team GB's biggest medal hopes, but is now reportedly a doubt for the Games.

Despite the questions over his fitness, agent Jonathan Marks has stated his surprise at the BOA's decision to publicly doubt one of their elite athletes.

Marks said: "Phillips got the letter yesterday. And we are more than happy to send the BOA the medical records. He's incredibly disappointed and surprised as to why the BOA have chosen to do this.

"I can't understand the benefit to the athlete. Our office has even had a call from a member of the BOA medical team who has also expressed surprise at the organisation's decision to go public with the request.

"Phillips is an athlete who's proven that if he gets to the start line then he is one of those athletes who can win a medal."

Idowu also won a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships.
